Dear Audience,
This post is being authored by our founder David Malawey on 12/16 2023 just prior to 4pm Central USA time.
The purpose of this post is to announce our plans to perform MDO (multidisciplinary design optimization) on a flexible and modular robotics system, in the same manner as was performed in the master of science thesis published by D Malawey in 2016.
“I wish to hereby announce that we have begun development of the software for a multidisciplinary optimization algorithm within which to configure a multitude of designs, and for which we have been collecting data for over 5 years which will be fed into our model. The MDO is, in my expert opinion, an obvious next step from the successful proof of concept performed in regards to a small satellite (cubesat) in my thesis.” – David M
The details of the design, the combination of Gradient-based and Heuristic (Genetic algorithm), and the set of factors which lead to optimality are to mirror the functionality of the thesis work in the first iteration, and to follow the same “proposed next steps” as discussed in my public video:
Novel, Useful, Nonobvious
In the event that our USPTO patent attorneys deem this design of algorithm to be nonobvious, we are making the announcement publicly so that it becomes public information.
In the event of any business attempting to patent this design, be it known that we are in the process of publicising every module in the software, in stages.
The design algorithm will become public information, will become obvious due to the nature of our niche and limited number of technology groups in such crossover niche (MDO + robotics design + manufacturability) and it will be fully open source.
Products of the algorithm (individual designs and design sets, as well as pareto-optimal fronts of design variants) will be individually offered to the public, at a lower level as well as the underlying code of all engineering efforts.
(by the way, if you’re an engineer and you intend to be involved in robotics, now is the time to collaborate with us!)
The algorithm will be adjusted further to advance from mobile robots to airborne robots, drones, underwater autonomous vehicles, and each other invention class which falls within the capabilities of the algorithm (which is quite expansive).
As a next next step, we will request an AI-supported interface to help us populate the algorithm with expansive data from every common engineering element which may serve as a component to the aforementioned designs.
Unpatentable
You may contact us if your company would like to partner in this effort. We do not recommend spending money on patent attorneys for any design of similar nature, as our algorithm, and each fine detail, is rapidly becoming public information. Let us operate as a larger worldwide community in the same manner as was done to build major projects such as Linux.
Understand MDO?
If you’re one of those fancy engineers who has knowledge of optimization and perhaps Matlab scripting, you’re invited to dive into the work from 2016. Files are also available in PDF for review, as well as presentations from the work. (updated 2023.12)
